Art Fairs in Cologne

Cologne is known world-wide as a city for art. Not least of which are its Art Fairs, which are held yearly in the Kölner fair halls. It starts in the early year when the Kunst Messe Köln (Art Fair Cologne), the Kunstköln and the Antiquitätenmesse (Antique Fair) in Cologne are held throughout the city in April. Here there are approximitely 300 international exhibitors offering goods from antique and modern time, among which are antiques and sculptures. Found also are craft works and furniture, art from the old masters and paintings from the 19th

19th century, as well as, editions of Art Brut and post 1980 and photographs. And on the first weekend, around 40 antique books and graphics are offered. At the art experts stand everyone can bring his art pieces and have them valued for a small fee. For "young collectors", there are some stands, which offer relatively inexpensive

pieces ranging up to €2,500. The fair offers free guides and is open to everyone. That goes for Art Cologne too, which is held every year starting at the end of October or at beginning of Novermber. With 260 international galleries and 70,000 visitors, it’s the most impor- tant date of the modern art fairs in germany. Cologne stands on the top world-wide as well, witnessed by the pedigree of the visitors from every corner of the world. The fair presents an overview of the art of the 20th and 21st centurie, from classic to modern on to con- temporary art and young art works. Additionally, theree are sculp- tures for the non-conventional, for which specific parts of the hall are reserved.

Until 1900 there was only additions of pain- tings form old masters and arts and crafts and east Asian art in 1908. Today they fill the spectrum with contemporary art, photo- graphs and graphic arts. 14 auctions are held yearly at the headquarters situated
